The J4J Foundation Safe Cell Program

The J4J Foundation Safe Cell Program

CETA, Clinic to End Tech Abuse, recognizes the risk that family cell phone plans pose for abuse victims and survivors, and the difficulty to get out of those plans when fleeing abuse. It did a great service by calling on Congress to create a law allowing them to leave their family plans. [Refer to below excerpt for more information]. But once they leave their family cell phone plans, they’re going to need a cell phone of their own, especially if they are fleeing abuse. And now, under isolation during the health crisis, the need is more dire.

(New York, August 20, 2020) — In a letter published today, Cornell Tech’s Clinic to End Tech Abuse (CETA) and nine other organizations call on Congress to create a law empowering abuse survivors across the US to leave family phone plans they share with their abusers without burdensome fees or logistical hurdles — a measure that is especially important for those fleeing abuse during the COVID-19 crisis.

This is why The Justice For Jenny Foundation, Inc. is giving NEW, no-contract cellphones with prepaid airtime cards to abuse survivors for FREE. We started this new initiative in 2021 under the WE CAN STOP DOMESTIC VIOLENCE PROJECT to further our mission of domestic violence awareness and prevention.

Due to lack of funding, we don’t maintain inventory of phones, but we hope to expand the program on a need basis. That’s why we’re reaching out to the public.

Here’s what we envision for this:

  • We would like to work with the local police departments to ensure that cell phones get to those in immediate need, such as, survivors fleeing abuse or contacting the police for help.
  • We want to expand the program to provide cell phones to survivors living in local domestic violence shelters.
  • We are starting this program locally in Jersey City, NJ and hope to one day expand it to other cities in New Jersey.
  • We have aspirations to make this a national program.

Program Extension

The foundation also wants to extend this program to anyone in need of a phone within the Jersey City vicinity. We will prioritize based on circumstances, fleeing of abuse being the highest. But if you or someone you know needs a phone, fill out the below form and someone will be in touch.

Please help us to get the word out about our new Safe Cell Program

We expected to start giving phones away by the end of January 2021. Unfortunately, we haven’t received much traction or support for it. We are hoping to gain support through public awareness. We want to help families to stay connected. If you have ideas or want to help us to get the word out, we would certainly appreciate it. Please feel free to contact us here on the site or give a call.
